Academia and Democracy: Why is freedom of inquiry essential for a democratic political culture?

Talk to us and our guests about why academia and democracy can’t do without each other: The second event in the series Protecting Academic Freedom highlights the connection between democratic political culture and academic freedom.

Scholars and academic institutions convey knowledge and education that allow citizens to form political opinions and partake in public debates. If we want people and institutions to fulfill this key task for society and democracy, safeguarding their autonomy is crucial.

At the event we will talk about the characteristics of academic freedom and its fundamental importance for democracy (and vice versa). We will also discuss the consequences of restricting this freedom politically, socially, or economically.

You are invited to participate: Following a panel discussion there will be open lounge conversations between the audience, the panelists, and additional experts. As visitors, you will have the chance to engage in talks with our guests and ask your questions.

No prior knowledge of the topics is necessary.

PANEL TALK WITH:
