Sollten Sie im Lesesaal Atlantis am 17. und 18. September Unter den Linden Menschen sehen, die Bände aus den Regalen nehmen, wundern Sie sich nicht: Bände aus dem allgemeinen Lesesaalbestand, die in einem weiteren Exemplar in der Bibliothek vorhanden sind, werden ausgesondert.

Wie im vorigen Jahr schon berichtet, findet diese Maßnahme in Vorbereitung der Generalinstandsetzung des Hauses Potsdamer Straße statt. Sie dient der Reduktion von Bänden im Lesesaalbestand und generell von mehrfach in der Bibliothek vorhandenen Medien. Es handelt sich ausschließlich um Medien mit Erscheinungsjahr nach 1945 (keine besonderen historischen Exemplare) und es ist mindestens noch ein verbleibendes Exemplar in der Bibliothek vorhanden und kann weiterhin genutzt werden.

Die frei gewordenen Regalflächen werden künftig genutzt, um Bücher aus dem Präsenzbestand der Potsdamer Straße zugänglich zu machen.

Die Standortänderungen werden im StabiKat zügig aktualisiert. Sie könnten derzeit noch Hinweise auf Standorte für den Lesesaal finden, die nicht mehr korrekt sind.

Die Stabi bittet um Entschuldigung für eventuelle Störungen der Arbeitsruhe.

If you happen to spot people removing books from the reading room shelves in reading room Atlantis Unter den Linden on 17 and 19 September, don’t be alarmed. Volumes from the general reading room collection of the Potsdamer Straße location, which exist in at least one more copy within the library, are being withdrawn from Stabi’s collection.

As already reported last year, this action is part of the preparation for the general renovation of Haus Potsdamer Straße in a few years. It aims to reduce the volumes in the reading room collection as well as duplicates in the library. Freed shelving space is going to be used to make books from the reference collection Potsdamer Straße available. These are exclusively media published after 1945 (no special historical items) and at least one copy remains in the library and can still be used.

The location changes are going to be tracked in the StabiKat as soon as possible. You may still find some references to locations for the reading room, that are no longer correct.
