Es tut sich was im Lesesaal Potsdamer Straße | Things are Happening at Potsdamer Straße’s Reading Room

Die Bibliothek möchte auch im Haus Potsdamer Straße passende Arbeitsbereiche für alle Nutzungsbedürfnisse anbieten. Seit Jahren fehlte hier z.B. ein Gruppenarbeitsraum.

Daher gibt es in den nächsten Wochen und Monaten einige Veränderungen, hier von oben nach unten auf den Lesesaal-Ebenen:

• Im 4. OG des Lesesaals auf der Galerie stehen momentan etliche leere Regale. Diese werden abgebaut und durch Steharbeitsplätze ersetzt.
• Die Leselounge (jetzt im 3. OG) zieht um in den ehemaligen Raum der Mendelssohn-Ausstellung (ziemlich zentral im 2. OG schräg gegenüber der Infotheke).
• Am Ort der – dann ehemaligen – Leselounge entstehen Arbeitsplätze für konzentriertes, stilles Arbeiten.
• Die vorhandenen Arbeitsplätze im hinteren Bereich auf derselben Ebene werden buchbare Forschendenarbeitsplätze.
• Im 2. OG wird es am Nordende des Lesesaales hinter einer Holztür in der Nähe der farbigen Camaro-Fenster endlich wieder einen Arbeitsraum für Gruppen geben.
• Auf derselben Ebene ungefähr in der Nähe dieser Holztür entsteht ein Loungebereich mit bequemen Polstermöbeln. Falls Sie den Lesesaal kennen: dort waren bis letzten Monat Mitarbeitenden-Arbeitsplätze.

Insgesamt wächst damit die verfügbare Fläche des Lesesaales, und auch die Zahl der verfügbaren Plätze wächst. Sollte Ihnen die Stabi Unter den Linden zu voll sein, erwägen Sie doch mal das Arbeiten in der Architektur-Ikone am Potsdamer Platz. Sie mag etwas in die Jahre gekommen sein, und die WCs sind zugegebenermaßen in keinem guten Zustand – aber die offene, luftige Architektur mag dennoch eine angenehme und anregende Umgebung sein. Und falls Sie die Tourist:innen Unter den Linden stören – die gibt es im Haus Potsdamer Straße jedenfalls nicht.

Die Umzüge und das Öffnen der neuen Bereiche erfolgt nach und nach, und es wird zu den einzelnen Orten jeweils einen eigenen Post geben.

The library aims to provide adequate workspaces at the Potsdamer Straße building to meet the wide variety of user needs. For example, one thing that has been missing here for years is a group study room. That’s why, over the coming weeks and months you’ll see a number of changes taking shape, listed here from top to bottom across the reading room levels:

• 4th floor: A number of empty shelves are currently being dismantled and replaced with standing desks.

• 3rd floor: The Reading Lounge will move from its current location to the former Mendelssohn Exhibition Room, which you’ll find centrally located on the 2nd floor, just across from the information desk.

• 3rd floor: This space (vacated by the Reading Lounge) will be converted into quiet study areas for focused, individual work.

• Back section of the 3rd floor: Existing workstations here will become bookable research desks.

• 2nd floor: Behind a wooden door near the colorful Camaro windows at the northern reading room end, a group study room will finally return.

•  2nd floor: Close to that same wooden door, a new lounge area with comfortable seating will be created. (If you know the reading room: until just last month, this was an area with staff desks.)

Overall, this means more usable space in the reading room and more seats available to you. So, if the Stabi Unter den Linden feels too crowded, why not consider working in the architectural icon at Potsdamer Platz? It may be showing its age a little, and the restrooms admittedly aren’t in great shape—but its open, airy architecture can make for a pleasant and inspiring working environment. And if the tourists at Unter den Linden are bothering you—well, you won’t find them at Potsdamer Straße.
