Der sogenannte Lesegarten, also die Rasenfläche mit Sitzgelegenheiten vor der Stabi Potsdamer Straße, ist beliebt, auch bei geringeren Temperaturen. Sobald die Sonne scheint, ist es eine gute Pausenmöglichkeit im Freien, um Sauerstoff zu tanken – oder auch Nikotin, wer das möchte.

Problematisch ist jedoch, dass die Stummel klassischer Zigaretten in großer Zahl als Müll auf der Wiese landen. Teilweise sieht man vor lauter Kippen das Gras kaum noch – und das trotz der sieben (ja: 7!) Aschenbecher: zwei direkt am sogenannten Lesegarten, vier vor dem Stabi-Eingang und einer in Richtung Fahrradstellplätze.

Dabei geht es nicht nur um ein Müllproblem. Zigarettenkippen sind hochtoxisch und gefährden Fauna und Flora gleichermaßen – ein Problem, das alle betrifft. Daher für eine blühende Wiese im Lesegarten: Zigarettenkippen in die Aschenbecher werfen.

The so-called “reading garden” — the grassy area with seating in front of the Stabi Potsdamer Straße — is a popular spot. When the sun’s out, it’s the perfect place to grab some fresh air — or a quick nicotine boost, if that’s your thing.
But here’s the catch: classic cigarette butts are piling up in alarming numbers. Sometimes you can barely see the grass for all the butts — and that’s despite the seven (yes, seven!) ashtrays nearby: two right by the reading garden, four just outside the Stabi entrance, and one near the bike racks.

It’s not just about litter. Cigarette butts are highly toxic and pose a real threat to plants and wildlife — and that’s a problem that affects us all. For a fresh lawn and blooming flowers: throw cigarette butts in one of the ashtrays.
