Discovery-Systeme im Allgemeinen und speziell VuFind® spielen eine zentrale Rolle in den digitalen Strategien von Bibliotheken. Sie helfen uns, unsere Sammlungen zu präsentieren, den Zugang zu Ressourcen zu ermöglichen und letztlich sowohl für unsere Einrichtungen als auch für unsere Nutzenden einen Mehrwert zu schaffen. Doch aufgrund zunehmender digitaler Komplexität und wachsender Erwartungen müssen Bibliotheken und andere Gedächtnisinstitutionen den Wert ihrer Discovery-Dienste kontinuierlich hinterfragen – technisch, strategisch und gesellschaftlich.

Unter dem diesjährigen Motto What’s in it for us? laden wir die Community dazu ein, zu erkunden, wie VuFind® und verwandte Technologien unsere Ziele und Prozesse unterstützen und wo noch ungenutztes Potenzial liegt. Was ermöglichen unsere Discovery-Systeme im Hinblick auf Sichtbarkeit, Zugänglichkeit und Wirkung? Welche Inhalte finden unsere Nutzenden am Ende wirklich, und was können sie damit sinnvoll tun?

Die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin lädt Sie am 29. und 30. September herzlich zur Konferenz VuFind® Berlin 2025 ein. Das Treffen kombiniert den VuFind® Global Summit und das deutschsprachige VuFind®-Anwendertreffen, eine virtuelle Teilnahme wird ebenfalls möglich sein. An zwei Tagen bringen wir VuFind®-Nutzende zusammen, um Wissen auszutauschen, Herausforderungen zu diskutieren und die Zukunft gemeinsam zu gestalten. Ob Sie neu in der VuFind®-Welt sind oder schon lange zur Community gehören: wir laden Sie herzlich ein, gemeinsam zu reflektieren, wie Discovery-Systeme und insbesondere VuFind® den sich wandelnden Anforderungen von Einrichtungen, Fachleuten und Nutzenden gerecht werden.

Wir freuen uns über Vorschläge zu diesen und anderen Themen:

• Kuratierte Zusammenstellungen und Sammlungshighlights
• UX-Forschung und Gestaltung von Benutzeroberflächen
• Integration von Linked Data, Normdaten und kontextuellen Metadaten
• Ranking und Boosting
• Auffindbarkeit digitalisierter Sammlungen und elektronischer Ressourcen
• Arbeiten mit IIIF, OCR, Volltextindizierung und Annotation
• Rechte, Lizenzen und der Umgang mit sensiblen Inhalten
• Discovery-Systeme jenseits der klassischen Suche
• VuFind® als Daten- und Serviceplattform (APIs, Exporte, Anreicherung)

Ihre Beiträge, insbesondere zu praxisnahen Umsetzungen, institutionellen Strategien und innovativen Nutzungsszenarien, sind in verschiedenen Formaten willkommen. Bitte reichen Sie Ihren Vorschlag bis zum 01. Juli 2025 hier ein. Wir freuen uns auf Ihre Beiträge und informieren Sie bis Anfang August über die Annahme und sobald die Registrierung möglich ist!

Discovery systems in general and VuFind® in particular have become essential infrastructure in the digital strategies of libraries. They help us present our collections, enable resource access and use, and ultimately create value both for our institutions and for our users. But in times of increasing digital complexity and growing user expectations, libraries and other cultural heritage institutions must constantly evaluate the value of their discovery services – technically, strategically, and socially.

With this year’s theme What’s in it for us? we invite the community to explore how VuFind® and related technologies contribute to our missions and workflows, and where new potentials can be unlocked. What do discovery systems help us achieve in terms of visibility, access, and impact? Which content do our users actually find and what can they meaningfully do with it?

The Berlin State Library is proud to host the VuFind® Berlin 2025 Conference on September 29. and 30. The event combines the VuFind® Global Summit and the German VuFind®-Anwendertreffen, virtual participation is also possible. For two days, we bring together VuFind® users and contributors to share knowledge, address challenges, and shape the future of the system. Whether you’re new to VuFind® or a seasoned expert: we invite you to join us on-site here in Berlin or online to reflect on how discovery systems and especially VuFind® serve the evolving needs of institutions, professionals, and users.

We welcome submissions on topics including, but not limited to:

• Curated compilations and collection highlights
• UX research and design practices
• Integration of linked data, authority control, and contextual metadata
• Ranking and boosting
• Discovery of digitized collections and electronic resources
• Working with IIIF, OCR, full-text indexing, and annotation
• Addressing rights issues, licensing, and sensitive content
• The value of discovery systems beyond search functionalities
• Leveraging VuFind® as a data and service platform (APIs, exports, enrichment)

We welcome contributions that reflect practical implementations, institutional strategies, or innovative use cases in various session formats. Please send in your proposal here by July 1, 2025. Proposals will be reviewed by the programme committee:
