Standen auch Sie schon vor der Frage, wo Sie einen Band in einem unserer Lesesäle konkret finden können, der Ihnen im Katalog als „im Lesesaal vorhanden“ angezeigt wird? Oder saßen Sie in einer anderen Ecke des Lesesaals als üblich und brauchten dringend die nächste Toilette?

Hilfen zur Orientierung gibt es in beiden Häusern auch jetzt schon in Form von beleuchteten Tafeln und Würfeln. Ab heute können Sie sich digital auf Ihrem Smartphone oder an stationären Computern in unseren Häusern die Wege mit unserem neuen Orientierungssystem weisen lassen.

Orientierung in den Häusern

In 2D oder 3D können Sie am Bildschirm durch alle öffentlich zugänglichen Räume beider Häuser wandeln und die Staatsbibliothek auf ganz anderem Wege als bisher entdecken. Die Anwendung enthält neben den Lesesälen, Servicetheken, Toiletten und anderen Infrastruktureinrichtungen auch alle Geräte, die Sie bei Ihrer Arbeit unterstützen, wie Computer, Scanner, Lesegeräte für Mikrofiches und Mikrofilme oder Lupen. Wählen Sie die gewünschten Objekte im Menü Servicebereiche aus und lassen Sie sich innerhalb der Etage von der Treppe oder einem selbst gewählten Standort aus den Weg zu den Objekten anzeigen. Viele der Icons in den Plänen sind mit weiterführenden Informationen hinterlegt.

In der 3D-Ansicht werden die gefundenen Bereiche hervorgehoben; die Wegeführung ist nur in den 2D-Plänen enthalten.

Die barrierefreie Version unterstützt die Lesbarkeit mit stärkeren Kontrasten. Darüber hinaus werden in dieser Ansicht auch die Wege über Lifte und Rampen statt über Treppen geführt. Beide Häuser sind leider nur zum Teil barrierefrei. Für manche Bereiche kann Ihnen das System daher keinen geeigneten Weg vorschlagen. Bitte nehmen Sie schon vor Ihrem Besuch Kontakt mit uns auf, oder sprechen Sie uns vor Ort an.

Wegweiser zu den Lesesaalbeständen

In unseren Katalogen StabiKat und StaBiKat classic finden Sie bei Suchergebnissen zu Werken, die sich in einem der Lesesäle befinden, einen Link „Weg zum Regal“. Sie gelangen damit direkt in das Orientierungssystem und werden dort zum Regal oder Regalbereich geführt, in dem sich das Werk befindet. Um dieses in dem Regal zu finden, benötigen Sie die genaue Signatur aus dem Katalog.

Auch im Orientierungssystem selbst können Sie über den Menüpunkt Lesesaalbestände in der Systematik der einzelnen Lesesäle browsen oder über die Suche Systemstellen finden. Für eine thematische Suche nach in den Lesesälen vorhandenen Medien ist die Anwendung nur sehr eingeschränkt geeignet, weil nicht alle Ebenen der Lesesaalsystematiken eingearbeitet sind.

Weitere Ausbaustufen

Künftig wird auch die Sicherheitsinfrastruktur, wie Notausgänge und Feuerlöscher, in das System integriert. Auch Kunst- und Architekturobjekte sollen in einem eigenen Plan verortet und mit weiteren Informationen verknüpft werden.

Weiterhin in Vorbereitung ist ein Buchungssystem für Räume und Arbeitsplätze, das in die Raumpläne integriert wird. Künftig können Sie Carrels, Gruppenarbeitsräume und spezielle Arbeitsplätze in den Lesesälen direkt online buchen und den aktuellen Buchungsstatus dieser Objekte in den Plänen sehen. Eine Implementierung ist innerhalb des zweiten Quartals 2023 vorgesehen.

In unseren Häusern finden Sie die das Orientierungssystem als Standardanwendung an ausgewählten Computern, z.B. im Foyer des Hauses Potsdamer Straße nahe der Einlasskontrolle sowie auf den Infoterminals im Foyer des Hauses Unter den Linden nahe der Garderoben. Auch über die Website können Sie zu der Anwendung gelangen: direkt von der Startseite aus und über das Menü Vor Ort.

Have you ever been faced with the question where to find a volume in one of the reading rooms that is shown in the catalogue as „available in reading room“? Or were you sitting in a different area of the reading room than usual and  needed the nearest restroom?

Aids to orientation are already available in both houses in the form of illuminated boards and cubes. As of today, you can get digital directions from our new orientation system on your mobile device or on stationary computers in the library buildings.

Orientation in the Buildings

You can stroll through all publicly accessible rooms of both buildings in 2D or 3D and discover the State Library in a completely new way. In addition to the reading rooms, service counters, restrooms and other infrastructure facilities, the application also contains all facilities supporting your work, such as computers, scanners, readers for microfiches and microfilms or magnifying glasses.  To find the route to any object on the same floor either from the staircase or a location of your own choice, select the object in the Service Areas menue. Many of the icons in the plans are enriched by further information.

In the 3D view, the located areas are highlighted; the routing is only included in the 2D plans.

The service’s accessible version offers better readability for persons with visual impairments as well as routing via lifts and ramps instead of stairs. As both buildings are only partially accessible as yet, the system cannot suggest a suitable route for some areas. Please contact us before your visit or speak to us on site.

Guide to the Reading Room Collections

In our catalogues StabiKat and StaBiKat classic you will find a link „Locate shelf“ in search results for items located in one of the reading rooms. Following this link will take you directly to the orientation system and to the shelf or shelf area where the item is situated. To find it on the shelf, you’ll need the exact shelfmark from the catalogue.

In the orientation system itself, you can also browse the classification system of the individual reading rooms via the menu item Reading Room Holdings or find classification units via the search function. Please note: To find available media in the reading rooms via a subject or topic search, the application is of very limited use, because not all levels of the reading room classifications are incorporated.

Further Expansion

In future, the security infrastructure such as emergency exits and fire extinguishers will be included in the system. Art and architectural objects are also to be located in a separate map and linked to further information.

A booking system for rooms and workplaces will also be integrated. In future, you will be able to book carrels, group study rooms and special workstations in the reading rooms online and see the current booking status of these facilities in the plans. Implementation is planned within the second quarter of 2023.

In our buildings, you will find the orientation system as a standard application on selected computers, e.g. in the foyer of the Potsdamer Straße building near the enrance control as well as on the information terminals in the foyer of the Unter den Linden building near the locker rooms. You can also access the application via the website, either from the main page or via the On Site menu.
